2016-17 AWARDS NIGHT

The MUDCC 2016/17 Competition Year culminated on 10 July 2017 with the announcement and presentation of the annual awards by our President Dawn Woods.

There were awards for the first, second and third placed photographers in:

A Grade Open
B Grade Open
A Grade Theme
B Grade Theme

with Club Champion being awarded to the highest scoring photographer of the year.

There were also awards for Image of the Year Open and Image of the Year Theme, as well as several Committee awards and the President's Award.

A fun addition to this year's awards night was a display of the best images from the Club's recent scavenger hunt for a People's Choice competition before members gathered downstairs for a celebratory drink or a bite to eat.

Pictured below are the awardees being presented with their certificates as well as the entries in the People's Choice Award. A full list of awardees is on the Club Competitions Results page.

Many thanks to Julie Fox for photographing the awardees and to the outgoing Committee who sourced the prizes.

And an extra special vote of thanks to Jane Milojevic for diligently and expertly managing the competitions throughout the year, preparing the award certificates and getting all the prizes ready for awards night.

ULLADULLA TO MOGO VILLAGE SCAVENGER HUNT - MAY 2017

Early on Saturday 27 May, a dozen or so Club members gathered to draw their target subjects out of a hat for our Ulladulla to Mogo Village Scavenger Hunt. With ideas firing, everyone then headed off in groups on a quest for fitting images.

On this occasion we were blessed with perfect weather which enhanced members? enjoyment of the day even though the strong sun presented some challenges. Much fun was had interpreting the subjects and finding creative ways to portray them.

We caught up for lunch at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens where there was much sharing of techniques, photographs and equipment pros and cons over a leisurely meal. Members then drifted off, some heading for home to peruse their images and others to grab a few more shots before the light was gone.

Prints of the best images from the day will be shown at our annual awards night in July and a People?s Choice winner will be selected.

Thanks to Christa, Anna and Jane for organising such a great day.

MUDCC EXCURSION TO THE PETANA GARDENS

Club members recently had an excursion to 'Sculpture at Petana Gardens', an exhibition of outdoor sculptures set amongst the beautiful gardens as part of our local Escape ARTfest 2016. While the weather forecast was not good, the rain held off and the overcast conditions were actually perfect for photographing the flowers, trees and of course the many beautiful sculptures. There was no wind so it was ideal for macro photography too and the threat of rain meant the gardens were not crowded.

A wonderful day was had by all. One of the highlights of the day were the waffles smothered in cream and jam with all you can drink coffee or tea!

Here are some images taken on the day by our Excursions Coordinator and Vice President Christa Drysdale, President Dawn Woods and members Barry Holden and Gina Evans.

the 12 images she entered.

MUDCC EXCURSION TO THE SHOALHAVEN ZOO - NOWRA

Eight members attended the Milton Ulladulla District Camera Club excursion to the Shoalhaven Zoo in Nowra on Saturday, 30th July and, unlike our previously scheduled date, this time the weather was glorious.

Our members thoroughly enjoyed the outing and managed to capture a large variety of images, including many of the beautiful birds who performed on cue for our photographic endeavours.

As always with zoo photography, the greatest challenge was to photograph caged animals and birds by trying to focus through wire, but the results were encouraging.

Throughout the day, the group split up and everybody went their own way, occasionally coming across each other and comparing and viewing each other?s images.

After meeting at the café at 1.00pm, the group enjoyed a beautiful lunch and coffee, while taking part in robust discussion of personal experiences, technical issues, cameras and equipment. Not only great fun but we all learnt something along the way.

A lovely day all round.

Christa Drysdale

MUDCC EXCURSION TO MILTON SHOW

Thirteen members of Milton Ulladulla Camera Club turned up for a club excursion to the Milton Show on Saturday, 5th March. With so many diverse activities on hand including show jumping, wood chopping, horse riding, dog agility events, Jack Russell races, dog jumping events and much more, there was a lot to photograph.

Blue skies and bright sunshine meant no dramatic backdrops but the broad range of activities offered plenty of opportunity to practice panning techniques and motion blur. Providing motivationwas the photographic exhibition among the displays in the pavilions that featured the work of several Milton Camera Club members, many of whom were prize winners.

The Milton Historical Society?s re-enactment of a hundred year old photo, featuring a local bullock team carting its cargo along the Prince Highway in Milton, added another element and providedyet another great photo opportunity. In the meantime, the inevitable sideshows and food vans provided vibrant colour and atmosphere, while the whirl and twirl of the rides was a constant sourceof motion.

Some members even stayed well into the evening to enjoy and photograph the excitement and skill of the MotoX riders and to enjoy the bright lights of the night-time rides. Another fantasticMilton Show and a good day out.

On Monday, 21st December the MUDCC Committee, along with a few members and two of our sponsors – June Andersen, of "MOGO ZOOm Through the Lens? and Marilyn Townsend, of "Boots Great Outdoors Ulladulla? – got together to draw the Kurt Drysdale Fundraising Raffle. Appropriately, Christa & John Drysdale did the honours in drawing the winning tickets.

A pleasing total of $3,915 was raised in total. While only a drop in the ocean of expenses being faced, it is good result for small collection of special interest clubs and every dollar will go to good use. Christa, and theDrysdale Family generally, are very appreciative of the support and generosity they have received from all who have played a role in this project.

While Kurt continues to face a long and arduous road ahead, he remains in good spirits with a very positive attitude. While still on the ventilator, with the aid of technology, he is now able to talk to his family and friends and is able to leave the hospital for short spells on occasion. One of these occasions will be Christmas Day.

On behalf of MUDCC, I would also like to thank you once again and to wish you and yours a very happy and safe Christmas and holiday season.

MUDCC SCAVENGING AT BATEMAN?S BAY

"People having fun? was just one of the items on the list of subjects to be captured by enthusiastic MUDCC members during their camera club excursion to Batemans Bay on Saturday.
And have fun they did, despite the threat of bad weather and less than expected numbers. Eight eager photographers, and a guest "art director?, braved the looming clouds to set off from the Milton Ulladulla car park in four cars, armed with a list of twelve items to capture.
The items were divided into three categories - Nature, People and Park. Some Nature subjects were a challenge; such as "wattle? which is somewhat elusive at this time of year. Others, like "sea birds? and "seascapes? were not difficult to find at Batemans Bay.
"Equipment? was broad enough, "Legs? was open to all manner of interpretation and "People on a pier? is a common sight around the Bay. Plenty of people "riding a bike/scooter/skateboard?, but only one team managed to find a person willing to "jump off a swing?!
The group didn?t have to look too far to find "a man with a beard? given the only male participant was bearded, but members went further afield to capture this item, one party almost capturing a new club member at the same time!
While one MUDCC photographer was slightly handicapped with a "broken wing? (arm in a sling), another came to the rescue of a similarly challenged seagull, gently gathering it up and bringing it to a local vet for repair.
Luckily the rain held off till lunch time, allowing a full morning of fun photography, though putting an end to further efforts at the intended lunch venue, Eurobodalla Botanic Gardens. This, and an unexpected wedding at the Gardens, prompted a change to an undercover lunch venue and the day was saved – along with a seabird!
Other MUDCC members will be able share the enjoyment of the day out when selected images from the Excursion are submitted for a Members Choice competition at the Christmas function next month.
